Jack Lalor was the name on everybody's lips on Saturday around 5pm.

NORTHCOTE stamped its ticket to the Premier Cricket finals with a near-perfect chase against reigning premier Fitzroy Doncaster on Saturday.

Set a formidable 9-300 for victory, the Dragons sent a statement about their quality to the rest of the competition by reaching the target with seven wickets to spare.

With 17-year-old Jack Lalor the backbone at the top of the order, Matt Short (85 from 105 balls) and Ben Abbatangelo (70 not out from 98) played with freedom.

“A really steady and composed innings.” Northcote skipper Steve Taylor said.

“His temperament really shone through. A big chase and a target that sometimes can affect people mentally, but you could tell right from the outset jack was not letting anything steer him from his job. Really impressing all who watched, but one that Northcote knew he was capable of.”

Jack fell 26 runs short of his maiden first X1 being unluckily bowled from toeing the ball into the ground which then bounced up and hit the top of the bails.

Icon's own Abbatangelo and Taylor were largely untroubled after coming together at 3-192.
